November 25, 2005 In ten days Matthew will be ours!!!
We were just in court. Well actually we went to the courthouse, Stas and the official in charge of the children's welfare went into the courtroom. Less than two minutes later the official came back out and shook our hands. That was it! We got dressed up for no reason. I even had to wash my hair using water from the teapot. The hot water still isn't working well. Yesterday it worked for 45 minutes, but that was it. So today Jeff poured water over my head and I poured it over his. Last night I even gave Jeff a haircut. He really needed one, the last one was in September. It doesn't look too bad. So in ten days (starting tomorrow) we pick up the official adoption papers at the courthouse and go to get Matthew's new birth certificate. We are lucky because he was born in Odessa so we don't have travel to get the new one. Then we have to go to a separate office to get an official stamp. The first office isn't open on Mondays and the second isn't open on Tuesdays. Then we can take Matthew from the orphanage and take the overnight train to Kiev. In Kiev we have to go to the United States Embassy (which isn't open on Fridays) for 1 or 2 days of paperwork. He will have to get a medical exam at the embassy, we have an exit interview, and immigration paperwork. Then we can finally go home. We figure 18 days from now at the most. Another couple arrived here in Odessa this morning, they are from Alabama and are going to see a child at Matthew's orphanage. This is good since everyone else left.

Cara, Jeff & Matthew,
We're glad that court went well today -- only 10 days to go and he'll be in your arms forever! We made it back safely on Wednesday night. Hope you at least had a good dinner in honor of Thanksgiving. We all have something very special to be thankful for this year!
Love,
June, Ron & Christopher

We are sooo happy for you that the court hearing went well. I so look forward to reading this blog and was thrilled to hear the good news. What a good Thanksgiving! We missed you.
You will be home soon. Hopefully, the rest of the procedure will go smoothly for you. You're getting to be quite the photographer, Cara. That picture of Jeff and Matthew is really good! They both look so happy! God bless and have a safe trip home!

Congratulations! We are so happy for you guys! What a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas you will have.
We can't wait for you to bring Matthew home! We are so happy that the court went so well. What a huge relief.
I bet he is getting so attached to you. He is going to be so excited to have his new home.
Enjoy the rest of your time.

Cara & Jeff,
Yeah!!! We are so excited about your new son and can't wait to meet him. We are really missing you guys. Your Dad is no fun to spy on. We already went through Luke's clothes and he's willing to part with three pairs of PJs to give his new little buddy. Matthew is a handsome little man and we can't wait to meet him. Emma: I'm getting better at piano. Can I babysit Matthew? Good luck with the rest of the adoption.
Sammi: What color eyes does Matthew have? Matthew is really cute, I've seen him in the pictures but I want to see him in real life.
Luke: Bring me a buddy.
Good Luck with the rest of your adventure and we'll see you SOON!

How wonderful that court went well. You both have an extra blessing this year for Thanksgiving.
We all miss you very much and are praying for you to come home soon. I know that you were hoping that Matthew could stay with you during those 10 days. Did the court okay it?
Ginny is doing fine, she gets very excited to see the girls.
Hope all else is well.
Love,
